Himachal Kisan Sabha, CITU stage protests across state in support of farmers’ demands

The Himachal Kisan Sabha and the Centre of Indian Trade Union (CITU) staged a protest outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office here today to support the ongoing farmers protest and demanded that a case of murder be filed against Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij.

The protesters also demanded that the killings of farmers and destroying of their tractors should be investigated by a Supreme Court Judge.

The protestors — led by former MLA from Theog Rakesh Singha and former Mayor Sanjay Chauhan — carried out a rally from the DC’s office to the Sher–e-Punjab restaurant via the Lower Bazaar, raising slogans against the Union Government. Similar protests were staged across the state.

Singha said pellet guns and tear gas were being used on the protesting farmers who wanted to get to Delhi to demand that the government to fulfil its promise of withdrawing the three farm laws.

The Union and Haryana government were using various illegal means to crush the farmers protest, he added.

“The anti-farmer, anti-labour and anti-national Modi government is promoting atrocities against farmers and labourers by forming a nexus with corporate houses. Workers and farmers staged protests across the country on the inaugural day of the World Trade Organization (WTO) conference that kicked off in Abu Dhabi,” he said.

The protestors demanded the implementation of Minimum Support Price on crops and the implementation of the recommendations of the Swaminathan Commission. The protestors also advocated for the provision of Rs 1 crore as compensation to the families of the farmers who lost their lives during the farmers’ movement and compensation for the farmers’ damaged tractors. They called to stop the “conspiracy” to “hand over farming to Adani, Ambani and other corporates”.
