Chamba, July 22

The Chamba District Progressive Council has urged the state government to review its recent decision of opening the borders for tourists in Himachal Pradesh in the wake of the current Covid-19 pandemic.

In a media statement issued here, the vice-president of the council, Major SC Nayyar (retd), who is also the president of the District Veteran Cricket Association, said it was not an appropriate time to allow the entry of tourists into the state. A few months ago, there were hardly 18 Covid cases in the state, but after the decision of the government to allow inter-state movement for the tourists, the number of cases had increased, and at present, it had crossed 1,000-mark, said Major Nayyar.

“The decision to allow the tourists to visit the state is being viewed as a disruption to the efforts being taken to check the spread of Covid-19,” he said. “However, we welcome the statement of the CM that Himachalis who are staying out of the state will be allowed to visit on certain conditions,” added Major Nayyar. — OC
