Highest single-day spike of 120 Covid cases; 11th death in Himachal

With the highest-ever single-day spike of 120 new Covid cases and the 11th death due to the deadly infection, the tally of infected persons in the state touched 1,954 today.

A steep increase was witnessed in Solan and Sirmaur districts, where 38 and 29 new cases, respectively, were reported today.

In Mandi district, 26 persons were found infected, followed by Kangra 15 cases. Three cases each were reported from Hamirpur and Shimla, two each from Kinnaur and Kullu and one each from Bilaspur and Una.

14 test +ve in BBN

Solan: Fourteen persons, including a five-year-old boy, tested positive for Covid in the Baddi-Barotiwala-Nalagarh industrial belt in Solan district today.

A total of 38 new cases were detected in the district, taking the tally of infected persons to 472. The active cases stand at 311.

Medical Officer, Health, Solan, Dr NK Gupta said 10 of them were the direct contacts of positive patients from SSF Technoplast company while two others were from Haripur Sandholi village and one from Bhatoli Kalan village.

Four Army men infected

Dharamsala: A man from Kangra district succumbed to Covid-19 this morning.

This is the third death from the deadly infection in the district and the 11th in the state. The deceased was reportedly suffering from a chronic liver disease and was taking treatment at the PGI, Chandigarh. He was discharged from the PGI on June 22. After returning home in Jwalamukhi, he again developed complications. He was admitted to the Tanda medical college, where he tested positive for the infection.

He was being shifted to the Dharamsala zonal hospital, but he died while being taken to the ambulance. Today’s death has brought focus on the lack of super specialist medical facilities for Covid patients.

Meanwhile, four Army men were also found infected. Two of them were in institutional quarantine at Yol. They were shifted to the Military Hospital, Yol.

Mandi reports 26 cases

Mandi: In the highest single-day spike, 26 persons today tested positive for Covid-19 in the district.

The district health authorities said most of them were the primary contacts of a BJP leader from the district, who was found infected two days ago. As many as 260 primary contacts of the leader have been quarantined for 14 days and their samples would be taken.

SP, Mandi, Gurdev Chand Sharma said an FIR would be registered against a Covid-positive contractor and his driver for spreading infection. Twelve cases were reported from the Seraj Assembly segment.
