Heavy rain lashes Kangra, Mandi; yellow warning for next four days

Heavy rain lashed isolated parts in districts of Kangra, Mandi, Hamirpur and Bilaspur in the past 24 hours while other districts received intermittent rains.

About 117 persons stranded near Chhatru and Dorni Mod in Lahaul and Spiti following flash floods at Dorni Nallah yesterday were rescued today. Two HRTC buses were provided for 100 more persons who crossed the flash flood and slide zone today, said special secretary Disaster management Sudesh Kumar Mokta. All three persons struck in a river near 14 Mile in Manali of Kullu district were also rescued.

In total 48 roads, including 31 in Kullu, seven in Mandi, six in Solan, two in Lahaul and Spiti, one each in Chamba and Kangra, are closed due to rain. Nine incidents of flash floods and landslides have occurred in Bilaspur, Kullu and Lahaul and Spiti districts yesterday. As many as 55 transformers and 42 water supply schemes have been disrupted.

The local MeT office has issued yellow warning of thunderstorm and lightning at isolated places in the state for next three days (August 2 to 4) and heavy rainfall, thunderstorm and lightning in low and mid hills on August 5.

On account of heavy rains, the MeT office has also advised the farmers to ensure proper drainage facilities, reschedule spraying of insecticide and keep bee colonies disease free, neat and clean.

Gohar was the wettest with 93 mm of rain during the day followed by Naina Devi 79 mm, Bhoranj 72 mm, Dharamsala 70 mm, Bijahi and Palampur 65 mm, Mashobra 57 mm, Kufri 49 mm, Gaggal 48 mm, Jubbal 46 mm, Tinder 45 mm, Kasauli 40 mm, Khadrala and Hamirpur 39 mm, Kandaghat and Mehre 38 mm each, Bilaspur 36 mm, Dehra Gopipur and Guler 35 mm

Keylong was coldest at night with a low of 9.1 degree C while Una recording a maximum temperature of 32.8 degree was hottest during the day.
