Shimla, June 3

The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) today demanded that Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur must resign in view of the large-scale irregularities in the health department and a White Paper be issued with regard to all purchases of sanitisers, PPE kits and ventilators.

The CLP, which met here today with 20 of the 21 Congress legislators attending the meeting, sought the resignation of the CM. “It was not Rajeev Bindal who was running the government but the Chief Minister who is also the health minister. So how can he absolve himself of the responsibility,” asked CLP leader Mukesh Agnihotri.

It was not Rajeev Bindal who was running the government but the Chief Minister who is also the health minister. So how can he absolve himself of the responsibility. The Chief Minister is now trying to divert the attention of the public by talking of issue like Cabinet re-shuffle.

All legislators, including former CM Virbhadra Singh and Asha Kumari attended the meeting while Sujan Singh Pathania joined through video conferencing. The MLAs pointed out that the Health Department has been making news for all the wrong reasons whether it was the earlier “letter bomb” circulated by BJP leaders regarding alleged bungling in the health department and then the health minister being made Speaker and the CM retaining the department.

“The CM is now trying to divert the attention of the public by talking of issue like Cabinet re-shuffle but the onus to ensure proper utilization of funds to fight coronavirus lies with him and he has miserably failed in this regard,” CLP leader said.

It was decided that the CLP as well as the PCC would raise these issues publically. The Congress legislators also raised the issue of poor facilities at various quarantine centres. Some even pointed out to lapses, which they alleged had resulted in death of some patients.
