Himachal Governor pays tribute to martyrs

Palampur, August 2

Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, during his two-day visit to Kangra district, today visited Saurabh Van Vihar here and paid tributes to martyr Captain Saurabh Kalia.

He inaugurated Van Mahotsav organised by the Palampur Forest Division in collaboration with the District Red Cross and the Inner Wheel Club by planting a sapling of peepal.

He said the maximum number of soldiers who had made the supreme sacrifice in the Kargil war were Himachalis. He expressed satisfaction that Saurabh Van Vihar was being developed in a better way so that the memory of the martyr remains alive in the minds of future generations.

Later, the Governor visited the house of Param Vir Chakra martyr Captain Vikram Batra in Bandla and met his parents. The martyr’s father, GL Batra, shared various memories related to his son with the Governor.

The Governor also visited the house of Captain Saurabh Kalia at Sughar. He had a conversation with the martyr’s father, Dr NK Kalia. He went to the Saurabh Memorial Room and paid homage to the martyr.
