Fruit, veggies market to come up at Parala

Centre sanctions Rs59.50 cr for the project

A modern fruit and vegetable market will be set up at Parala in the Theog area of Shimla district, besides a cold chain for the marketing of agricultural produce at a cost of Rs 59.50 crore.

Managing Director of the State Agriculture Marketing Board Naresh Thakur said here today that the Central Government had sanctioned Rs 59.50 crore for the project and the work on it was likely to start soon.

Under the project, a cold chain, a controlled atmosphere store with 5,000 MT capacity, a frozen chamber of 1,500 MT capacity, a grading and sorting facility of 10 MT per hour and individual quick freezing of one MT per hour would be set up, he added.

Besides, a pre-cooling chamber with 60 MT capacity would be established at Kharapatthhar and five refrigerated vans would be purchased for the transportation of produce from fields to markets, he said.
