Fresh snowfall in higher reaches of Himachal

Higher reaches and tribal areas received fresh snowfall while scattered rain lashed mid and lower hills today. The minimum and maximum temperatures stayed three to six degrees below normal.

45-cm snow in Pangi valley

Chamba: The tribal Pangi valley in Chamba district received heavy snowfall last night. Reports revealed that Killar, sub-divisional headquarters town of Pangi, received 45 cm of snowfall while the high mountainous ranges witnessed heavy snowfall. High peaks of the Bharmour tribal region also experienced heavy snowfall. As a sequel to this, there was a sharp downfall in temperatures in the lower areas also. Intense cold wave conditions prevailed in and around Dalhousie town and other low-lying areas, thereby disrupting normal life. Meanwhile, Bharmour MLA Jia Lal Kapoor said that sufficient ration, including food and other edible commodities, had already been stored in government depots of the valley to meet the requirements of people when the region gets snowbound. — OC

The local MeT office has warned of heavy rain and snow at isolated places in mid hills and higher hills tomorrow and rain and snow in mid and higher hills on November 25 and 26.

Strong velocity icy winds swept the region and thick convective clouds overcast the sky. Kalpa in tribal Kinnaur district received 17 cm of snow, followed by Hansa (10 cm), Khadrala (6 mm), Keylong (3 mm) and Shillaru (1 cm).

Manali was the wettest in the state with 28 mm of rainfall, followed by Nichar (19 mm), Bharmaur (17 mm), Jubbal (16 mm), Wangtoo (15 mm), Reckong Peo (13 mm), Seobagh (11 mm), Bhuntar and Sarahan (8 mm) and Bajura, Kumarsein, Saloni and Kotkhai (3 mm).

The maximum temperatures plummeted across the state and Kalpa, Manali and Bhuntar recorded a high of 2.4°C, 6.2°C and 11.3°C, respectively, 10 degrees below normal. The mercury stayed six degree below normal at Keylong and Mandi and five degrees below normal at Bilaspur, Una and Sundernagar.
