Forest fire in Kullu village kills two

A woman died after suffering burn injuries due to a forest fire at Sachani village in Bhuntar subdivision of the district yesterday. A man was also killed in an accident triggered by the forest fire.

A fire broke out in a forest adjacent to the village. A grass field nearby also caught fire. Kamlesh Sharma (45) was foraging grass in the field and suffered burn injuries. The villagers rushed her to Kullu hospital, from where she was referred to IGMC, Shimla. However, the woman succumbed to her injuries near Bilaspur on the way, and was brought back to Kullu hospital.

The police said the body of the victim was handed over to relatives after the postmortem today.

Meanwhile, some boulders fell on the road due to the fire and Vaman Dev (65) died on the spot after being crushed under the falling rocks. The police said the victim was returning home from work. The body of the victim was handed over to the relatives after the postmortem.

The police said the cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained. — OC
