Shimla, August 4

The state has disbursed the ex gratia amount of Rs 50,000 in over 93 per cent Covid-19 death cases. Of total 3,526 claims made till date, the state has disbursed the ex-gratia amount to 3,284 families. The total number of deaths due to Covid in the state has risen to 4,150.

The claims for the ex-gratia amount made in Bilaspur, Una, Lahaul and Spiti, Chamba and Kullu exceed the number of deaths reported in these districts. In Bilaspur, 96 Covid deaths have been reported but 205 claims for the ex-gratia amount have been received. In Una, 282 deaths have occurred but 402 claims have been received.

“One of the reasons for this discrepancy is that several people died of the disease outside the state but their families claimed the ex-gratia amount in their home districts,” says a Disaster Management Department official.
