Mandi, February 15

A mahila sammelan was organised at Ram Leela Maidan at Karsog in Mandi district yesterday, which was presided over by Mandi MP and Congress state president Pratibha Singh. More than 1,000 women participated in this sammelan.

She said as per the party manifesto, eligible women will soon start getting Rs 1,500 as the state government was working in this regard. The delay in completing this announcement had occurred due to the natural disaster in the state. She said that the guarantees given by the Congress government would be fulfilled in a phased manner in the coming four years.

Targeting the BJP, Pratibha said no relief package had been received from the Central Government. The MP said the previous BJP government of the state had won accolades by inaugurating the development works done during the tenure of Congress.

Pratibha said that former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh made an important contribution in ensuring betterment of women and making them self-reliant. He ensured women’s education by running many schemes for their upliftment.

“Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi had opened the doors for women to enter politics by providing reservation to them. The first woman President of the country was also made by the Congress government,” she said.

On the demand of women, the MP said the post of gynaecologist in civil hospital at Karsog would be filled and also announced to give Rs 5 lakh for the construction of a stage at Ramlila maidan.

The MP called upon women to support the Congress in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections and said that the Congress was the only party which can bring all-round development of the state and the country.

On this occasion, she visited the exhibitions organised by various departments and also participated in a group dance with women.

A health check-up camp for women was also organised on this occasion, in which gynaecologists from Mandi and Shimla provided treatment and consultation. Health check-up of about 200 women was done in this camp.
