To promote cold water fisheries, a three-day trout fair was organised by the State Fisheries Department, which concluded in Manali today. Fisheries Department Director Satpal Mehta said eight districts of the state were suitable for cold water fisheries. Besides Kullu, trout are found in Mandi, Kangra, Chamba, Shimla, Kinnaur, Lahaul Spiti and Sirmaur districts and these are conducive for cold water fisheries.

Mehta said the fair was successful and more than 800 trout were sold in three days. He said the fair witnessed huge crowds. Local residents as well as tourists, including foreigners, enjoyed various delicacies of the trout during the fair. He said, “The Fisheries Department arranged free stalls for hoteliers on the Mall Road. The hoteliers, including the Hotel Association, appreciated this initiative of the Fisheries Department.” He said it would be the endeavour of the Fisheries Department to organise this festival in the next summer season as well.

He said efforts were being made by the government to promote cold water fisheries. Representatives of Span Resorts, Piccadilly Hotel, Manualya and Shere Punjab, who set up stalls in the fair, said the visitors enjoyed various delicacies of the trout.
