Hamirpur, March 5

Making India a drug-free society and diverting youth towards nation building is the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and every BJP leader is committed to work in this direction. This was stated by Anurag Thakur, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, after flagging off a bike rally from Gandhi Chowk here today.

Over 2,000 bikers participated in the rally. Anurag said the objective of the rally was to inculcate habit of wearing helmet while driving two-wheelers and educating youth about drug abuse. He said 15,000 helmets would be given to the youth at various bike rallies to be conducted in the Hamirpur parliamentary constituency. The rally concluded at the Police Ground, where Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Roads, Transport and Highways, addressed the gathering.

Speaking on the Congress government in the state, Anurag said the state of affairs in the Congress was evident from the brawl that happened here at Gandhi Chowk two days ago. He said soon people would come forward and ask about the promises and guarantees they had talked about during elections. He said that MLAs were unable to face people and that was one of the reasons of the political situation Congress was facing. He refrained from commenting on possibilities of rebel MLAs joining the BJP.

Earlier, Anurag inaugurated Khel Maha Kumbh at Luhanu ground at Bilaspur. Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid were present at the inaugural function. He said players participating in Khel Maha Kumbh were awarded with trophies and cash awards of over Rs 50 lakh. Over 50,000 players from the village to district-level participated in the event, he added.
