Drive to eradicate poppy, cannabis plants in Mandi

A special campaign will be launched in the district for eradicating cannabis and poppy plants from September 21 to October 5, said Deputy Commissioner Rugved Thakur here yesterday.

Cannabis and poppy plants would be destroyed at all identified sites, public and private lands, he said.

District dividedinto sectors

  • The district will be divided into sectors and teams be formed at the panchayat level to run the campaign

Thakur held a virtual meeting with all SDMs, and Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Jatin Lal to discuss the successful implementation of the campaign.

He asked the ADC to divide the district into sectors at various levels and form teams at the panchayat level to run the campaign. He instructed the SDMs to coordinate with the police, forest and all other departments concerned in their areas. The emphasis was laid on ensuring cooperation and participation of all people, including panchayati raj institutions, voluntary institutions, mahila and yuva mandals and self-help groups.

The Deputy Commissioner said that various mediums of mass communication would be used to make people about the campaign.“In all gram panchayats, people will also be administered an oath to eradicate cannabis. Along with this, education will be imparted regarding the ill-effects of drug abuse in panchayats,” he remarked.
