Dharamsala: Tourists enter water bodies despite ban

Despite heavy rain in the region, tourists and pilgrims coming to the district are entering rivers and streams, risking their lives due to chances of flash floods.

Last year, the Charan river in Dharamsala witnessed a flash flood, causing heavy damages to many properties in the region.

Despite that the district administration has banned the entry of people in the rivers, tourists can be still spotted venturing into swelling streams for taking selfies and photographs, and at times swimming.

However, there are hardly any signboards which could warn tourists against venturing into the water bodies. Police officials said though they kept a vigil on tourists entering the rivers, it was difficult to keep the entire stretch of rivers under watch.

Kangra Deputy Commissioner Nipun Jindal said signboards warning tourists against entering the rivers had been put up at various vantage points. More boards would be installed to warn tourists.
