Shimla, January 11

Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi today. He urged the Prime Minister to take steps to improve rural infrastructure in border villages to prevent migration of people living in villages there.

The Governor said that serious measures need to be taken to permanently settle local people in the border areas of Himachal, besides strengthening rural infrastructure under the Vibrant Village Programme.

He discussed the need for creating more facilities for Indian Army personnel posted at strategically important locations that local people could also avail of. He briefed the Prime Minister about the promotion of natural farming and a campaign being run against drug addiction in Himachal.

The Governor apprised the Prime Minister about his tours of villages in tribal districts under the Vibrant Village Programme. “Various schemes are being implemented under the Vibrant Village Programme in border districts but there is need to further strengthen infrastructure in these areas so that the migration of local people could be stopped,” he said.

The Governor along with his wife Janaki Shukla also met Union Home Minister Amit Shah last evening.
