Dharamsala, July 13

Vivek Kumar of Yol near here has reportedly been duped by a cyber fraudster.

Vivek said he had seen an advertisement on his Facebook page that a scooty was on sale. When he called up at the number given in the advertisement, the person on the phone had disclosed that he was a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) jawan and posted at the Bhuntar airport in Kullu district.

After the deal was finalised, he asked the seller to show him the papers of the vehicle. He sent the papers on Whatsapp, which seemed to be authentic, Vivek said.

The seller asked him to deposit Rs 1,500 to his account as transportation charges for despatching scooty from Bhuntar to Dharamsala in a CISF vehicle. Considering the fact that a paramilitary jawan was involved in the deal, he transferred the amount to the seller’s account number, Vivek said.

He said the seller remained in touch with him. The seller informed him that the truck had left for Dharamsala and he would get the scooty the next morning. The seller then requested him to transfer the full amount to his account as the vehicle was already on its way.

Vivek said he credited the amount to his account. However, the next day, the vehicle did not arrive and his phone was switched off.

He said he had filed a complaint with the police.

Khushal Sharma, SP, Kangra, said they had been warning residents regarding cyber frauds, but many people fell in their trap.
