Shimla, June 3

Terming the vigilance probe an eyewash, CPM state committee on Wednesday urged the Governor to direct the state government to hand over the case of purchase of medical items and equipment, including personal protection equipment (PPE) kits and sanitisers, to the High Court so that the deep- rooted “medical mafia” in the state could be unearthed.

Submitting a memorandum to Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, CPM leaders Rakesh Singha, legislator from Theog, former Mayor Sanjay Chauhan, Dr Kuldip Tanwar, Vijender Mehra and Falma Chauhan said they were disturbed to learn about the corruption in the purchase of healthcare items, equipment and medicines in the name of combatting the pandemic.

The corrupt practices had surfaced at a time when coronavirus cases are rising in the state.

They stated that there was prima facie evidence to establish the failure of the government in preventing corruption in the purchase of vital health equipment necessary to prevent the spread of the virus.
