Shimla, September 11

The CPM has slammed the government for temporarily transferring doctors from the Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) and Hospital to meet the Medical Council of India (MCI) norms in other medical colleges in the state. “To satisfy the MCI norms, the government temporarily sends doctors from the IGMC and Tanda medical college to other medical colleges for a month or two. They return after the MCI inspection, hence nobody knows what students are going to learn in the absence of senior professors?” asked CPM state secretariat member Kuldip Singh Tanwar.

“By not providing permanent academic staff in these medical colleges, the future of hundreds of doctors is put at stake. Besides, the absence of senior doctors will also hurt patients in the hospital, especially in the present times of the pandemic," he said.

Tanwar said that repatriating doctors from one institution to other was not a solution. He added that a medical emergency recruitment commission be formed and rules for the recruitment of professors be made flexible to tide over the present health crisis.
