Coronavirus cases in Himachal rise to 105

12 new cases in Kangra

Number of coronavirus positive cases in Himachal crossed 100-mark on Wednesday as 12 people — who had returned from Mumbai and one from Chennai, to Kangra on May 18 and were kept in institutional quarantine — tested positive.

In the morning five had tested positive and later seven more tested positive. This is biggest single day rise in cases in the district.

Those who tested positive today included a family including father mother and child from all residents of Sari Malog village, another male (55), a resident of Chanjehari village in Bhawarna area, 21-year-old male from Kohli village in Baijnath area, 8-year-old girl from Lambagaon village, three members of a family, including mother, son and daughter-in-law, all residents of Jheol village, a female from Lambagaon and 31-year-old youth from Jawalamukhi.

41-year-old from Bajot village in Jaisinghpur area of Kangra district who had travelled from Chennai to Pathankot on train on May 18 and was later kept under institutional quarantine also tested positive.

All the 12 patients have been shifted to Corona containment centre in Baijnath.

This has taken total numbers of cases in Himachal to 105. Total cases in Kangra have risen to 33, including 24 active cases, eight cured and one death.

Those who have tested positive today had returned from Mumbai and Chennai on special train and were being kept under institutional quarantine in Kangra. They were symptomatic.

With more trains to arrive from Mumbai carrying hundreds of Himachal residents in the coming days the district administration was now desperately looking for places to put them in Institutional quarantine and if tested positive in Covid Containment Units (CCCs). Kangra district is already running short of places to create new institutional quarantine centres and CCCs.
