Himachal CM Jai Ram Thakur unveils statues of Ambedkar, Capt Vikram Batra

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur unveiled a statue of Dr BR Ambedkar on his 131st birth anniversary here today. He paid floral tribute to the first Law Minister of India by garlanding his statue installed in front of the SDM office. He also unveiled a statue of Kargil War hero Capt Vikram Batra.

He said that Ambedkar not only headed the committee that drafted the Constitution but also took up various issues of the poor, downtrodden, Scheduled Castes, and other weaker sections of society. He added that Ambedkar believed that education was the right weapon to fight social slavery and enlighten the downtrodden to gain social status, economic betterment and political freedom. Ambedkar devoted his whole life fighting casteism.

‘Cong, AAP no threat’

Thakur announced the opening of a new development block at Palampur, subtehsil at Chachian, and IPH subdivision at Banuri. Earlier, Trilok Kapoor, Chairman of the State Wool Federation, thanked the Chief Minister for accepting all demands he had taken up with him.

The Chief Minister also unveiled a statue of Capt Vikram Batra, PVC awardee, installed near the PWD rest house. Capt Batra’s old statue installed after the Kargil War in 2003 was on the verge of collapse. His parents were also present on the occasion.

Local MLA Ashish Butail was not present on the occasion but he submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister at the PWD rest house highlighting the demands of Palampur such as district status, construction of a multi-storey parking, and opening of a new BDO office.
