Shimla, November 30

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur today sought public cooperation in ensuring strict adherence to social distancing norms and other guidelines to check the spike in Covid cases in the state.

In a video address to the people of the state, Thakur said it was very unfortunate that Himachal — which was once amongst the best managed states vis-à-vis Covid nationally — had totally slipped down. “I know people are facing inconvenience due to strict curbs like the night curfew in four districts and a cap of 50 persons in social gatherings but the situation is such that we have been left with no other option,” he said.

Thakur said in about 80 per cent of the cases, the virus had spread among a large number of people who had attended marriages or religious functions. “Initially, everyone was very particular but as the casual approach set in, the state witnessed a sudden surge in cases, which is a cause of worry,”said the Chief Minister.

He said he had asked his ministers and MLAs to ensure strict adherence to the limit of 50 persons at any function. “I have cancelled many functions to ensure that we do not violate the norms,” he said.

The Chief Minister said it was the responsibility of every citizen to keep himself safe and by doing so, he or she would ensure everyone else’s safety against Covid.
