Himachal CM opens women's national ice hockey tourney at Kaza

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur inaugurated the 9th Women National Ice Hockey Championship at Kaza today.

He said, “It is for the first time that the competition is being held in the state. Ice hockey is one of the most popular winter sports. This event will boost tourism in the region.”

“The government has approved the Swaran Jayanti Sports Policy 2021 to boost sports activities. Under this policy, 3 per cent reservation will be provided to sportspersons in government jobs and the diet money will be double,” said the CM.

Under the new policy, Rs 3 crore would be given to gold medal winners in Olympics, Winter Olympics or Para Olympics. Silver medallists would get Rs 2 crore and the bronze medallist Rs 1 crore. Along with this, Rs 15 lakh would be given for participating in Olympics. Asian Games and Commonwealth medal winners would be given pension. Arjuna Award, Dhyan Chand Award and Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award holders would get a monthly salary.

“The government has announced a high-altitude sports centre in Kaza at a cost of Rs16 crore. Skate Boots have been provided by the Department of Youth Services and Sports for training players at a cost of Rs 27 lakh and ice rinks have been developed by the administration on a small scale in Lidang, Sagnam, Losar, Tabo and Hikmi,” he stated.

The CM also listened to public grievances at Kaza. The Gramphu-Kaza-Sumdo road would be widened at a cost of Rs 840 crore to provide easy access to the Army close to the China border in Spiti, Thakur added.
