Cloudburst in Kinnaur village

Apple orchards and fields suffered extensive damage in a cloudburst that struck Meeru village in Cholling of Kinnaur district late last night.

The debris entered the barracks of the Army and also blocked the Hindustan-Tibet National Highway. The house of a local, Ram Pal Negi, was damaged, reports said. The highway remained blocked for a few hours and the traffic was restored at 10 am today.

Intermittent rain lashed several parts of the state and 26 roads were blocked due to landslides. Dharamsala and Jubbarhatti received 37 mm rain while Janjehli and Dalhousie recorded 27 mm rain, followed by Kufri 26 mm, Manali 19 mm, Shimla 18 mm, Narkanda 14 mm, Seobagh 13 mm, Swarghat and Fagu 12 mm, Kothi 11 mm, Solan 10 mm and Pandoh 9 mm.

The local MeT office has predicted rain and thunderstorm in mid and lower hills and rain and snow in higher hills over the next six days and issued yellow warning of heavy rain in lower and mid hills on August 9.
