Classes for IX-XII pupils to resume from today in Himachal

The Education Department has made preparations for starting regular classes for about 300, 250 students of Class IX to XII in 1,862 schools from November 2 following the decision of the state government.

“The principals and the headmasters of the schools have been given liberty to call students on alternate days in case their number is more than the sitting capacity. All schools have prepared plans in respect of infrastructure and student strength but no head of any institution has informed about the shortage of space as per the Covid-19 norms,” said Amarjeet Sharma, Director Higher Education.

The principals could change the timings of their schools and draft their own timetables while adhering to the standard operating procedures (SOPs). “The consent of the parents will be mandatory for attending regular classes, as the timetable will be decided at the school level. The permission of the parents will make them take note of the timings of the classes of their wards as well as the timetable adopted by the school,” he added.

The second-term regular examinations of Class IX to XII students were likely to be held from December 5 to 15. However, online teaching would continue and the students would also be given the option of online examinations.

“A large number of teachers travel 30 to 40 km everyday and also pool vehicles, so it is advisable that social distancing is maintained and overcrowding is avoided, as any lapse can lead to problems,” Sharma said.
