A case of a clone website of a private university based at Barotiwala being operated by a company has come to light. Fearing this website could be used to fool people and sell fake degrees, IEC University’s Registrar Vinod Kumar lodged a complaint with the police last evening.

In the complaint, he stated that IEC University was legally established in 2012. Its official website is www.iecuniversity.com but another website with the domain name www.iecuniversity.org was using the university logo and other details illegally.

“A company named Ample Themes has illegally created this clone sometime ago. When the matter came to our notice, we warned them through a letter sent on November 15, 2019, but the company did not discontinue the website,” the Registrar said.

“Initially, they said it was only for a mock exercise and assured us that it would be removed soon,” claimed the Registrar in the complaint. The website, however, continued to show the data of students and fake data was being uploaded. Vinod Kumar expressed fear that the company concerned “was fooling people by selling fake degrees”.

The Barotiwala police registered a case of cheating and a probe was underway, said Baddi SP Rohit Malpani.
