Shimla, September 18

The 23-year-old Shimla youth, who allegedly shared objectionable videos of girl students of a private university in Mohali on social media, was handed over to a Punjab police team in Rohru on Sunday evening.

He has been arrested under Sections 354 of IPC and Section 66 E of IT Act, while another youth (31) has also been taken in custody by Punjab police for questioning and verification.

The Shimla police had earlier detained the youth, identified as Sunny Mehta, from near his house in Rohru.

The girl student of Chandigarh University in Mohali had reportedly said she made videos of some girls and sent them to a youth in Shimla who allegedly uploaded those on social media. She has also been arrested by police.

The Punjab police had shared the mobile number of the accused and he was tracked by Shimla cops. The accused was caught from near his house in Rohru. Two teams were dispatched to nab the 23-year-old accused. The location of the accused was tracked through his mobile number.

He belongs to a well-to-do family. The accused had left studies after school and was working at his native place. The Chandigarh University girl arrested by police was friends with him.

"The Himachal police reacted to the request of Punjab police with sensitivity and professionalism and nabbed the accused in Chandigarh University case," DGP Sanjay Kundu wrote on the twitter.

Students of the private university held a protest on the campus after "objectionable videos" of several girl students were allegedly leaked.
