Speaking at a district-level event celebrating International Women’s Day Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repswal on Thursday said anganwadi workers can play a crucial role in raising awareness about the girl child in society.

Repswal emphasised the need to ensure a discrimination-free environment between sons and daughters. He said harbouring a positive attitude towards girls could eliminate discrimination of any kind. He urged all anganwadi workers to contribute towards raising awareness among families.

He also said that in today’s world women have the flexibility to choose their profession and there have been numerous examples where women have performed excellently in every field. He said such successful women were a source of inspiration for all.

The DC also distributed FDRs worth Rs 21,000 among 20 beneficiaries and honoured ten other girls with cheques worth Rs 6,000 and certificates of merit for achieving merit in board examinations in the district under ‘Beti Hai Anmol’ Campaign.

Prior to this, the DC was welcome by Rakesh Chaudhary, district programme officer, Women and Child Development Department.

Anuradha Kumari, project officer, child development, also provided information to the audience about various welfare schemes being implemented by the department for the welfare of women.

A cultural programme was also presented by the anganwadi workers.
