Shimla February 28

The BJP legislators led by Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur today urged Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla to ensure a fair and impartial conduct on the part of the Speaker in the Vidhan Sabha.

Thakur pointed out that the Speaker yesterday acted in a partisan manner by allowing voice vote during the debate on the cut motion. “Despite our insistence that there should be division of votes as the government had lost majority in the absence of its six legislators, the Speaker put the cut motion to vote voice,” he pointed out.

“The Speaker by way of his act has lost the faith to hold this constitutional post and appropriate action is required to be taken,” the complaint read. The BJP said it would not remain silent to the unethical conduct of the Speaker.

They urged the Governor to direct the Speaker for voting and division of votes so that values of the office of the Speaker are maintained in a democratic manner. The BJP also told the Governor that they were manhandled when they went to meet the Speaker yesterday.
