Nurpur, June 17

Youth Congress (YC) workers led by Nurpur unit president Satvinder Singh staged a dharna at the Jassur Chowk, near here, today blocking vehicular traffic on the Pathankot-Mandi National Highway and the Jassur-Talwara link road for one hour in protest against the Agnipath. The police booked four protesters.

A heavy police force was deployed at Jassur in view of the protest and the road blockade by the Youth Congress activists. The protesters raised slogans against the Central Government and burnt an effigy of the Prime Minister. The highway blockade led to a 5 km-long traffic jam, causing inconvenience to commuters. The police exercised restraint in dealing with the protesters and restored traffic after an hour.

Kangra District Congress president Ajay Mahajan, also joined the protesters. Additional SP, Nurpur, Surinder Sharma said that four protesters had been booked. However, no arrest had been made so far, he added.
