ABVP opposes reduction in PhD seats

The ABVP has opposed fewer seats for PhD in Agricultural University, Palampur. The PhD seats have been reduced for this session and in many departments, such as agriculture economics, PhD has been discontinued. The panel has written a letter to the Chief Minister, the Governor and the University Vice-Chancellor, HK Chaudhary, requesting that at least 50 per cent of the total MSc seats should be for PhD. The ABVP said the Agricultural University, Palampur, was the only agricultural university in the state and the lack of PhD seats there meant students would have to go out for PhD.

Task force for implementing NEP

A high-level task force has been constituted to ensure better implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) in the state. The first meeting of the 43 members of the task force will be held on September 13 at the HP Secretariat. The Education Minister of the state will preside over the meeting.

Open and sanitise hostels: SFI

The SFI has demanded that the hostels should be opened and sanitised before the students arrive for the postgraduation exams starting on September 15. In a memorandum submitted to the chief warden, the AFI said the university administration had not clarified about the opening of hostels. The students' body said that if the hostels were not opened, the students from various parts of the state would have to rent an accommodation, which will put extra financial burden on them.

Institute holds virtual induction

Shoolini Institute of Life Sciences and Business Management (SILB) conducted a two-day virtual induction for the first year students of the 2020 session. The president of the institute, Saroj Khosla, administered the oath to the new students. Shallu Sehgal and Shivani Dutt introduced the students, through a virtual presentation, to the rules and regulations of the institute. A virtual skit, 'Youth: I Am Possible' was staged by the students, wherein they exhibited their talent. A training session was also conducted by the institute's technical experts on the learning portal 'Aaddoo'. Director Shalini Sharma, management department head Daman Preet Kaur and other members were also present.
