Rs 700 cr to be invested in Una ethanol plant: Virender Kanwar

The work on the PGI satellite hospital being built at a cost of Rs 450 crore, mother and child healthcare hospital being constructed for Rs 20 crore and a trauma centre for Rs 8 crore is underway in Una district. The Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has sanctioned an agriculture-based ethanol plant for the district and Rs 700 crore will be invested in the project, said Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Virender Kanwar at the district-level Himachal Day celebrations here today.

Kanwar honours artistes of a cultural programme on Friday.

The minister took the salute at a march past presented by the contingents of the Himachal Police, Home Guards, NSS, Scouts and Guides. Chairman of the State Finance Commission Satpal Singh Satti, HPSIDC Vice-Chairman Ram Kumar and Gagret MLA Balbir Singh were also present.

Kanwar said, “Himachal Pradesh has been in existence for the past 75 years. The able leadership of all chief ministers coupled with the honesty, dedication and hard work of people have made Himachal a model state of the country”.

He said that in the past four and a half years, the state government had worked for the welfare of all sections of society. “The age limit for old age pension has been reduced from 80 years to 60 years and the daily wages have been raised to Rs 350. The Himcare scheme has been launched, and every member of a family is entitled to a health insurance cover of Rs 5 lakh. People suffering from life threatening diseases have been brought under the cover of the Sahara scheme,” he added.

The minister thanked the Prime Minister for providing free Covid vaccines to all residents of Himachal. An exhibition of products made by women self-help groups of the district, besides schemes of various departments was put up at the venue.

Earlier, Kanwar paid floral tributes at the war memorial located in the Una Municipal Park. Deputy Commissioner Raghav Sharma and SP Arijit Sen Thakur were also present.
