55 students pledge organ donation

As many as 55 BSC nursing students of Sister Nivedita Government Nursing College, Shimla, took a pledge to donate their organs during an awareness programme on organ donation. The programme was organised by the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (SOTTO). Dr Yashpal Ranta told students that a person could save eight lives through organ donation. He said organs could be donated of a brain dead person and the beneficiaries of the organ donation could live up to 20 to 25 years after receiving the organs.

National Youth Day celebrated

DAV Public School, Tiara, observed National Youth Day to sensitise students about the philosophies, principles and ideas of Swami Vivekananda. Students were motivated to become good citizens. Many online activities such as debate, speech and drawing competition were organised.

NSUI protests students’ expulsion

The NSUI on Friday staged a protest outside the office of the Vice-Chancellor of Himachal Pradesh University, demanding that its expelled leaders be taken back. The NSUI said the student leaders had been suspended without issuing a show cause notice. NSUI state president Chhatar Singh said the decision was unilateral, adding that even though the NSUI student leaders had not been involved in any violence, they were still expelled.

Shimla Chapter of PR society awarded

The Public Relations Society of India (PRSI), Shimla Chapter, has received three awards for 2021 for its outstanding contribution towards excellence in public relations. Announcing this in New Delhi, PRSI president Ajit Pathak said PHS Malini, joint director, Department of Information and Public Relations, Himachal Pradesh, and Ashok Kumar Sharma have been awarded, while Ranvir Verma has been adjudged the best secretary in the country.
