Una, November 5

Satpal Singh Satti, chairman of the State Finance Commission, today distributed free LPG connections to 50 beneficiaries of the Grahini Suvidha Yojana at Behdala village in Una Assembly segment. The package included a gas stove, regulator, security pipe and a LPG refill.

Speaking on the occasion, Satti said under the state government scheme, more than 2.5 lakh LPG connections had been distributed across Himachal, while in Una alone, the number of beneficiary families was 18,000. The switch from fuelwood to LPG for cooking not only saved the state’s green cover, but also protected the women from diseases of the eyes and lungs caused by fuelwood smoke.

He said the scheme was initiated for residents belonging to marginalised sections who could not be covered under the Ujjwala scheme of the Union Government. He called upon government officials and field level party workers to propagate the scheme among the masses so that all needy were covered.
