Arki police nabs 5 in constable recruitment paper leak case

Five candidates, the alleged beneficiaries of the constable recruitment examination, were arrested by the Arki police. A WhatsApp chat had gone viral in which the leakage of the written exam was alleged.

The examination has come under the scanner as four of the five youths, who have cleared the written exam, figured in the chat and secured marks ranging from 63 to 66.

SP, Solan, Virender Sharma said a case for creating a mischief on a complaint by Gaurav Kumar, a resident of Manol village in Arki, was registered last evening. Five youths have been arrested and are being interrogated. The examination was held on March 27.

The complainant alleged that after the declaration of the result on April 5, a video of live WhatsApp chat had gone viral on social media. A miscreant had demanded Rs 8 lakh to Rs 10 lakh for leaking the question paper of the exam.

Police sources said five aspirants were reportedly found involved in the WhatsApp chat of which four had attained marks ranging from 63 to 66.

The one who failed to secure the requisite marks allegedly leaked the chat. One of the five aspirants received a WhatsApp call from an unidentified caller on March 22 or 23 and he claimed that he could provide the question paper for Rs 8 lakh to Rs 10 lakh. Among the aspirants was a truck driver who had applied for a driver’s post.

The police were scrutinising the cellphones of the accused and details had been sought from their service providers. This would help them identify the callers.

The final result of the exam is yet to be declared as the process to upload the documents is underway by those who have cleared the exam. The list of top 130 candidates will be finalised after that.

Question papers were received in Solan on March 24 while the alleged chat took place on March 22 or 23. This points to the alleged leakage of the paper.
