Deputy Commissioner (DC) Vivek Bhatia today kickstarted the National Intensive Pulse Polio Immunisation Campaign by administering polio drops to a child at the district hospital, an official communiqué state.

The DC said 46,336 out of 50,982 children up to five years of age had been administered polio drops across the district. He said the remaining children would be vaccinated in the next two days.

To make the campaign a success, 509 polio booths had been set up, which were being manned by 2,123 health employees, said the DC. “Polio drops to children in the snowbound Pangi tribal valley would be given after the snow melts,” he added.
