3 die in Pangi mishap

Three women were killed on the spot and the driver seriously injured when a pickup vehicle veered off the road and fell into a gorge in the tribal Pangi valley of Chamba district today.

Residential Commissioner of Pangi Sukhdev Singh confirmed that the vehicle crashed near Kumar nullah bridge in the morning.

He said Mahatam Dei, Shanti and Man Dei, residents of Sach village, died in this accident while vehicle driver Nek Chand was injured who was rushed to a nearby civil hospital for medical treatment.

After carrying out postmortem, the dead bodies were handed over to the next of kin of the deceased; he said, adding that the police had registered a case to ascertain the cause of the accident.

An immediate relief amount of Rs 20,000 each to the families of the deceased had been provided.— OC
