2 killed in massive landslide on Chandigarh-Manali highway

Two people were killed, while three others were seriously injured, in a massive landslide at Hanogi temple on the Chandigarh-Manali highway on Friday morning.

According to the police, a vehicle was parked along the road, and its driver was sitting inside when big boulders rolled down the hill killing him on the spot. The deceased was still trapped under big boulders and efforts were on to extricate the body.

Another vehicle was moving towards Kullu from the Mandi side in the area when once again big boulders rolled down from the hillside killing the driver on the spot and critically injuring three people.

The deceased was identified as Gurmukh Singh, a native of Samarkhurad village under Una district of Himachal Pradesh.

The injured have been rushed to the nearby health centre at Nagvain.

SP, Mandi, Gurdev Chand Sharma, said that workforce and machinery have been deployed in the region to restore the road for traffic movement.
