167 new cases; two deaths in Himachal Pradesh

The surge in Covid cases continued with 167 new cases being reported today, taking the total number of positive cases to 5,321. With two more deaths today, the total number of Covid deaths has reached 30. The highest number of cases were reported from Sirmaur and Solan. The total number of active cases stand at 1,428.

Sirmaur district witnessed the highest one-day surge of 56 Covid cases. Deputy Commissioner RK Pruthi said 33 cases were found in Paonta Sahib and 23 in Nahan subdivision.

In Nahan, 15 cases were detected in Amarpur Mohalla alone. Besides, workers of Tirupati Medicare, Pontica Aerotech and other industrial units and their family members, and also a driver, who transports the staff of Pidilite Industries, Kala Amb, also tested positive for Covid-19. Most of them are the contacts of earlier patients.

In Solan district, 29 persons, including an expectant mother, tested Covid-positive today. Medical Officer, Solan, Dr NK Gupta, said that two cases each were detected in Arki and Solan, one in MM Medical College, 13 in Parwanoo and 12 cases in the Baddi-Barotiwala-Nalagarh (BBN) industrial belt.

Kangra district today reported seven cases. Among these are two health personnel from the Tanda medical college, a 35-year-old woman from Duglapiana village, near Harchakiyan and a 54-year-old man from Gharoh village, near Shahpur.

Meanwhile, a 45-year-old woman from Pharer, near Palampur, died at the Tanda medical hospital. She was admitted to the hospital on August 24 for some post-surgery complications. However, she was found infected. The woman had undergone a gall bladder surgery at the hospital on August 12. She was discharged, but developed complications on August 24 and was re-admitted.
