Nurpur, March 7

To celebrate International Women’s Day, the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment organised a programme in Bachat Bhavan on Thursday. On this occasion 13 assistants and workers of anganwadi centres who retired from the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment were honoured by the chief guest with mementoes and citations for their remarkable contributions and services to society.

Nurpur Tehsildar Rahika Saini, while presiding over the function, said women played an important role in taking the society forward. She said this day did not just celebrate the achievements of women but also served as a catalyst for global action towards gender equality.

“It provides an opportunity for governments, organisations and individuals to renew their commitment towards promoting women’s rights and empowerment. Education not only empowered women but also enabled them to make better decisions in life,” she said.

She added that today women were proving their talent in military, political, administrative, health and other services. She called upon all women to take up one problem they face this year and 0resolve it and so forth in the coming years.

Executive Child Development Project Officer Sunit Kumar welcomed the chief guest. The anganwadi staff received applause for presenting Pahari and Punjabi songs during the programme.
