Patiala, January 17

Ahead of a three-day pulse polio drive (January 19 to January 21), the Health Department today flagged off rickshaws to create awareness among masses.

The polio drive is a part of the ‘National Immunisation Day’ being held across the country.

Patiala Civil Surgeon Dr Harish Malhotra said rickshaws would visit different areas, especially high-risk areas, including slums, industrial units and colonies on the outskirts of the city.

He said the Health Department has set a target of administering polio drops to 1.91 lakh children up to the age of five years.

To achieve the target, the Health department would set up 918 booths and 33 transit points.

As many as 27 mobile teams along with 189 supervisors would cover children of labourers living in slums, brick-kilns and other parts of the city.

Dr Sudha Grover, District Immunisation Officer, urged residents to get their kids vaccinated without any delay.

She said booths have been set up in villages and around 4,000 staff has been deployed to make the three-day immunisation drive a big success in the entire district.
