Two attacks on cops in Mewat

Teams were chasing cow smugglers, raiding cock fight; 330 persons booked

The Mewat police were attacked in two different instances in Mewat. Two policemen were injured and a police vehicle was damaged.

Eighty people were booked for attacking the police while they were chasing cow smugglers. As many as 250 were booked for thrashing police personnel when they were raiding a cock fight where lakhs of rupees were being gambled.

Late on Sunday night, a police team raided Laharwadi village after getting information of gambling on a cock fight. When the police team reached the spot, the accused were busy gambling. They started pelting stones on the policemen.

“Our police team went to nab the accused but soon, more than 200 villagers joined the accused and started pelting stones on us. The villagers attacked the police and finally our team had to return. We have booked 250 villagers and 23 have been identified out of 250. We are conducting raids and will nab them soon,” said inspector Ram Dyal, SHO of Punhana police station.

According to the police, the identified accused are Bhoora, Ratti, Shera, Rafiq, Arshad, Rahim, Irfan, Hakam, Rahmat, Inus, Nasir, Ramjan, Hakikat, Mohammad, Boocha, Hazar, Shamim, Harun, Mushtaq, Ibra, Shkul, Kappu, Pappy, Mangal, Asgar, Jahaj Khan, Taufiq, Juhru, Iklas, Abbas, Hasan, Sagru, Jakir and Aasu. All of them are at large.

In another incident on Saturday night, a police team and members of Gau Raksha Dal were thrashed. The cow smuggler in question allegedly fired at them at Luhinga Kalan village. On the complaint of Lokesh Singla, president of the dal, an FIR has been registered against 80 persons at Bicchor police station.

According to ASI Man Singh, the investigating officer, the incident took place when the joint team of the police and Gau Raksha Dal was seizing a pickup jeep carrying “restricted meat”.

The accused took the jeep inside the village and soon, villagers started pelting stones on the team and opened fire. In the attack, a police vehicle was damaged and two cops were injured.

“We have identified 27 accused out of 80 and are conducting raids to nab them,” added ASI Man Singh.
