Faridabad, February 3

Hundreds of members of the Joint Trade Union Council staged a demonstration outside the Mini-Secretariat here today in protest against the Centre’s new farm laws and the amendment to labour laws announced in the Union Budget.

Babu Lal Sharma, convener of the JTUC which represents the All-India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), Hind Mazdoor Sabha (HMS) and ICTU, said: “The three laws are anti-farmer. Because of these laws, the country is in turmoil.”

Bechu Giri, a member of the ESI Regional Board and state secretary of the state unit of the All-India Trade Union Congress, condemned the defiant stance of the Modi government and accused it of adopting anti-democratic policies.

He said the council supported the agitation of Power Department employees against the Electricity Bill.
