Palwal: Tenders floated for Rs 306 crore water augmentation project

The Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) has floated tenders for the construction of four Ranney wells in the Yamuna belt to augment and upgrade the drinking water supply in the district.

The Rs 306 crore project is expected to be completed in two years after the allotment of work, said officials, adding that it would address water scarcity in villages falling in Hathin subdivision and neighbouring parts of Nuh district.

The wells will be dug near Chandhut village. While nine Ranney wells are operational, the supply capacity is 9 MLD each, which is insufficient to meet the requirement in various parts of the district.

The availability in terms of the Litre per Capita per Day (LPCD) is less than 100 in the majority of villages falling in the Hathin block.

Meanwhile, around 50 villages in the district are facing shortage of irrigation water as availability via minors connected with Agra and Gurugram canals passing through the district has been low at around 250 cusecs against the demand of about 800 cusecs, as per sources.

Shrikrishan Dahiya, Superintending Engineer, PHED, Palwal, said tenders had been released for the project and work was expected to start in due time.
