The Nuh police, in a joint operation with the Delhi Police, yesterday arrested a suspect, wanted in the murder case of Head Constable Yashpal, after 11 years.

The suspect was arrested from the Tauru area after a brief exchange of fire. A countrymade pistol, two cartridges and TVS Apache bike were recovered from his possession.

The suspect has been identified as Shakir, alias Janu, a resident of Shikarpur village. He sustained a bullet injury in his legs and was admitted to Shaheed Hasan Khan Mewati Medical College, Nalhar, for treatment.

According to the police, a team of the Delhi Police Special Cell received a tip-off that Shakir would come to Tauru to meet one of his associates.

After getting information, a joint police team was constituted and Inspector Shiv Kumar of Delhi Police Special Cell, Inspector Amit Kumar of CIA, Nuh, and Inspector Subhash of CIA, Tauru, was part of the team.

“Around 3 am on Tuesday, the joint team reached near GCS School, Tauru, and put up a barricade. After some time, the police saw Shakir, who was coming from the Bilaspur side on silver Apache motorcycle without a number plate, and signalled him to stop, but he tried to give the police the slip and started firing at the police. In a response, the police also fired at him, leaving him injured,” said Krishan Kumar, spokesperson for the Nuh police.

A case under Sections 186, 353, and 307 of the IPC was registered against him at the Sadar Tauru police station on Tuesday.
