Randeep Singh Surjewala joins Jan Sandesh Yatra, puts speculation to rest

Pabra (Hisar), January 18

Joining the Jan Sandesh Yatra, alongside Kumari Selja and Kiran Choudhary, the Rajya Sabha MP and national general secretary of the Congress, Randeep Singh Surjewala, launched a scathing attack on the BJP-JJP government, alleging large-scale unemployment and apathy towards the weaker sections and women.

Addressing a rally at Pabra village of the Uklana Assembly segment on the second day of the yatra here today, he claimed that the jobs were being ‘auctioned’. “Youth in Haryana are so dejected that they are ready to sell off their land to go to foreign shores in search of employment,” he said.

Mentioning Hisar, Jind, Fatehabad, Bhiwani, Sirsa, Kaithal, Kurukshetra, Yamunanagar and Ambala districts, Surjewala stated that this region effected the change of power in Haryana. “Kumari Selja, Kiran Choudhary and I have not initiated this fight for vested interests, or to get any post, but we want the welfare of the weaker sections, the Dalits, farmers, women and youth,” he stated.

Claiming that the region had been deprived of power in the past, he said, “Despite being in power, you did not have a share in the government. I promise that we will bring power to your doorstep, which will ensure a change of system as well.” Pabra is part of Uklana (Reserved) segment, the home segment of Selja.

Talking to The Tribune today, Selja stated that they had embarked on the yatra to strengthen the party ahead of the Lok Sabha poll. “The Lok Sabha poll is on our agenda as the Assembly elections are scheduled about six months after the General Election. If we win all 10 Lok Sabha seats in the state, the party will automatically be strong for the Assembly elections,” she said, adding that democracy was being throttled by the BJP regime in Haryana and at the Centre.

Asked about the organisational setup in the state Congress, she said, “When I was the state party president, I too could accomplish this task, and now again, we have been asking the party leadership to nominate district-level office-bearers.”

Tosham MLA Kiran Choudhary maintained that the yatra would script a new history in Haryana politics. “We have the Lok Sabha poll before us. The party is geared up and I am sure that the Congress will win all Lok Sabha seats, and also the Assembly elections,” she said. None of the three leaders commented upon the letter issued by Haryana affairs incharge Deepak Babaria.
