Kurukshetra, January 24

The fifth edition of the International Gita Mahotsav (IGM) on a foreign land will be organised in Sri Lanka in March this year.

A three-member team comprising Chief Executive Officer of the Kurukshetra Development Board (KDB) Akhil Pilani, Honorary Secretary of the KDB Upender Singhal and chairman of the 48-kos Tirtha Monitoring Committee Madan Mohan Chhabra, reached Sri Lanka on Wednesday to finalise the events to be held in the first week of March.

Sri Lanka was the country partner in the International Gita Mahotsav (IGM-23) held in Kurukshetra in December last year.

Sri Lanka’s Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Minister Vidura Wickramanayaka had attended the evening aarti at Brahma Sarovar with BJP national president JP Nadda in December.

During his address, Vidura Wickramanayaka had expressed willingness to host the next event. Before Sri Lanka, the IGM was organised in Mauritius, London, Canada and Australia.

KDB’s Honorary Secretary Upender Singhal said, “After the cultural minister of Sri Lanka had a discussion with the Haryana CM about the IGM, a formal invitation from Sri Lanka was received to organise the event there. We have reached Sri Lanka today. The IGM will be held in the first week of March and the schedule and locations will be finalised in the meetings over the next couple of days.”

Chairman 48-kos Tirtha Monitoring Committee Madan Mohan Chhabra said, “The main events are likely to be held in Colombo. The celebrations in the foreign countries are helping us in promoting Kurukshetra as a cultural tourism destination.”
