Rohtak SP for creating WhatsApp group to combat crime

A police-public meeting was organised on the premises of the Sampla police station in Rohtak district under the chairmanship of Rohtak Superintendent of Police (SP) Himanshu Garg on Thursday.

Addressing the public representatives present at the meeting, Garg said a list of drug-addicts should be prepared and collective efforts made to help them come out of addiction in coordination with their families. “The drug addicts will be admitted to de-addiction centres with the help of the local administration,” he assured.

Garg also appealed to the residents that they should inform the police about the illegal drug trade in their area and persons involved in it.

“Immediate action will be taken by the police. The property of those found involved in the illegal drug trade will be confiscated,” he said.

The Superintendent of Police suggested that a WhatsApp group comprising local sarpanches, panches, prominent residents, other interested persons and police officials concerned be formed to share crime-related information to check incidents of crime and improve police-public coordination.

He warned that strict action would be taken against those persons found consuming alcohol while sitting in markets, parks, alongside roads and at other public places.

Garg asked the people to share information about people selling illicit liquor, possessing illegal weapons and posing with or exhibiting weapons on social media, with the police.

“Strict legal action will be taken against such persons,” he asserted. The Superintendent of Police appealed to the businessmen attending the meeting to install as many CCTV cameras as possible in markets, colonies and factories etc. “The demand for the installation of CCTV cameras on main roads and in markets will be forwarded to the government,” he stated. Garg said a special checking campaign would be launched for the verification of factory workers, slum dwellers, tenants and migrants so that criminal elements could be identified.

He directed the officials concerned to address the concerns flagged by the residents and their representatives at the meeting. DSP (Sampla) Rakesh Kumar, local SHO Inspector Sulender, SHO (IMT) Inspector Dilbagh Singh and other police officers along with residents were present at the meeting.
