Social outfit to aid of Karnal hospital, provides 5 sewadars

Nirmal Kutia, a religious and social organisation, has come to the aid of Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College (KCGMC), which is facing an acute shortage of staff resulting in long queues of patients in many departments.

50% LAB TECHNICIAN POSTS VACANT

As per official data, of the 48 sanctioned posts of lab technician, only 24 (50%) have been filled in Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College. All 39 posts of technical assistants are vacant too.

The social outfit has provided five laboratory technicians for free to assist the existing staff members for the speedy collection and testing of blood samples.

Due to the shortage of staff, patients were getting the reports of blood samples in two to three days. The authorities claimed that with the joining of five lab technicians, patients were now getting reports on the same day. Earlier, the sample collection was done till 12pm and now, the timings have been extended till 4pm. Owing to limited sample collection timing, scores of patients had to return or come the next day, resulting in delayed treatment.

On the request of the KCGMC, they have provided five sewadars, who were qualified lab technicians, confirmed a senior sewadar of Nirmal Kutia.

“We have urged the government to fill the vacant posts of lab technician. Till permanent staff is appointed, I have requested the Nirmal Kutia management to provide manpower, so that patients don’t have to suffer. Nirmal Kutia has provided five trained and certified lab technicians to us, who have started working in pathology and clinical biochemistry laboratories,” said Dr Jagdish Dureja, Director, KCGMC.

This step has been taken under the Sugam Chikitsha Abhiyan. Under this, the KCGMC will be given two volunteers by Nirmal Kutia to assist pregnant women and paediatric patients in getting medicine from the pharmacy. “After observing long queues at the pharmacy on the ground floor, we have decided to set up separate counters for expecting mothers, children and medicine department patients on the OPD floors. A counter has been set up in room number 209 for pregnant women and children, while another will be opened on the medicine OPD floor in room number 411. One volunteer of Nirmal Kutia has joined here,” said the director, adding that volunteers would be deployed at these counters to assist the patients.

Dr Dureja further said Nirmal Kutia had also set up a counter — ‘Mareez Sewa Kendra’ — in the IPD block where three volunteers had been deployed to help the patients. The outfit is also providing free orthopaedic implants to the needy and poor patients.
