Hisar, January 17

Launching the Jan Sandesh Yatra, along with Tosham MLA Kiran Choudhary, from here today, former Union minister Kumari Selja alleged that the BJP-led governments in Haryana and at the Centre were banking on falsehoods and hollow promises. She said the Congress wanted to expose the “lies” of the regime and disseminate the message of the party across the masses.

Though party national general secretary Randeep Surjewala could not attend the public meeting due to a family engagement, MLAs Shamsher Singh Gogi (Assand), Pradeep Chaudhary (Kalka), Shalley Chaudhary, (Naraingarh) and Renu Bala (Sadhaura) were present.

Selja, who is party general secretary, said they had launched the yatra, which would cover all parliamentary constituencies of Haryana. “Large-scale scams are taking place in Haryana, but nothing comes out of inquiries. Poor and weaker sections of society are entangled in the quagmire of Parivar Pehchan Patra and property ID, etc. Government schools are being closed as the education policy has been destroyed,” she claimed.

She called upon workers not to be afraid of anybody. “The fight is for our survival. This yatra has been launched to raise your voice. You will be in power and it will be your government if you strengthen this yatra. Politics is a medium to struggle for the rights of others,” she said.

Reacting on the Ram Temple event, she said, “Lord Rama belongs to all of us and this issue should not be politicised. Even the Shankaracharyas have expressed their reservations as the temple is yet to be completed.”

Kiran Choudhary said the yatra was aimed at highlighting the situation on the ground. “We have crucial Lok Sabha polls ahead. We are going to urge people to usher in change and not get swayed by jumlas,” she added.

Keen to contest Assembly poll

Kumari Selja, three-time Lok Sabha MP, Rajya Sabha MP and former Union minister, has been aspiring to contest the Assembly elections from Haryana. Randeep Surjewala and Kiran Choudhary are supporting her
